PND Connections - Never Leave Your Child Alone

An average of twenty-five children die each year because they are left alone in parked, overheated vehicles, and the count may be even higher in 2003, with at least twenty-three deaths already reported. According to new research released by General Motors and the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, a closed vehicle can heat up to dangerous levels in just a few minutes — even at outdoor temperatures as mild as sixty degrees Fahrenheit. For the third year in a row, SAFE KIDS and GM are sponsoring the Never Leave Your Child Alone public service campaign and are distributing free brochures (2 pages, PDF), in English and Spanish, designed to educate parents and caregivers about the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles.
