How do foundations perceive the value of strategic communications? How do they leverage communications to engage key constituencies and support program objectives? And, looking to the future, what are the communications challenges and opportunities for the field? These are some of the questions the Communications Network, a nonprofit organization working to build the strategic communications capacity of foundations and their grantees, hopes to answer through a benchmarking survey it recently posted to the Web. Results from the survey, which is being supported by the Cleveland Foundation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, will be released in September at the organization's annual conference and will be shared with funder networks and regional associations of grantmakers to further the conversation about the role of communications in creating change.
