Illuminating Solutions: The Youth Violence Reduction Partnership
Replicating success in youth violence reduction programs, even within the same city, requires robust organizational capacity and high-quality data-driven program implementation, as well as the right balance between adopting the core elements of the program model and adapting them to specific contexts, a report from Public/Private Ventures and the William Penn Foundation finds. Based on a multiyear evaluation, Illuminating Solutions: The Youth Violence Reduction Partnership (21 pages, PDF) highlights Philadelphia-based YVRP's proactive strategies for addressing the root causes of youth violence, including providing at-risk youth with intensive supervision and support. While youth participating in the program were less likely to be arrested, convicted, or be the victim of violent crime, the report found that homicide rates in the three districts where the program was replicated actually rose.
