PND Connections - Art. Ask for More.

The arts teach kids to be more tolerant and open, allow them to express themselves creatively, promote individuality, bolster self-confidence, and improve overall academic performance. While 89 percent of Americans believe that arts education is important enough to be offered in schools, the sad truth is that kids spend more time at their lockers than in arts classes. To promote the need for more arts education opportunities for children, last year Americans for the Arts and the Ad Council, with support from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, rolled out a multiyear national public service advertisement campaign called "Art. Ask for More." In addition to print and broadcast advertisements, the campaign features a Web site with facts about arts education and success stories about how arts activities have benefited kids across the country. The site also provides links to arts education resources; contact information for hundreds of local, state, and national arts organization campaign partners; and guidance for those who want to get involved with the cause at home, in schools, or within their communities.
