9/11 Response

PND Connections - Freedom Under Fire: Dissent in Post-9/11 America

Since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the U.S. government has questioned the patriotism of its critics, police have arrested protesters, and the New York Stock Exchange has revoked the press credentials of two reporters from Al-Jazeera, the Qatar-based Arabic-language news channel. Freedom Under Fire: Dissent in Post-9/11 America (28 pages, PDF), the latest in a series of special reports issued by the American Civil Liberties Union, documents these and other efforts to squelch dissent in the streets, on campus, in the schools, and at presidential and vice presidential apperances. The report was made possible with support from the Ford Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Open Society Institute, and the Rockefeller Foundation.
