The 2010 Nuclear Security Summit: A Status Update While significant progress was made on the national commitments announced at the April 2010 Nuclear Security Summit, new initiatives, funding streams, and collaborative efforts are needed to address evolving threats and prevent nuclear terrorism, a report from the Arms Control Association and the Partnership for Global Security warns. According to The 2010 Nuclear Security Summit: A Status Update (41 pages, PDF), 60 percent of commitments made by twenty-nine countries have been completed and progress has been made on another 30 percent, with Russia ending plutonium production and signing a disposition protocol with the United States and Ukraine to meet its pledge to remove all highly enriched uranium by 2012. According to the report's authos, the objective of the 2012 summit should be an international agreement on the need to fortify and harmonize current measures to prevent nuclear terrorism.
