PND Connections - Guide on the Special Needs of People with Disabilities for Emergency Managers, Planners & Responders
Emergency managers and responders across the country face myriad challenges in anticipating and preparing for possible disasters. To help them take into account the needs of disabled people, the Emergency Preparedness Initiative of the National Organization on Disability has published a new guide complete with tools and resources for special-needs emergency planning. Guide on the Special Needs of People with Disabilities for Emergency Managers, Planners & Responders (32 pages, PDF) features case studies of natural, technological, and man-made disasters and offers information on how to include disabled communities in the planning process. The guide is one of the first projects of the Emergency Preparedness Initiative, which was created after 9/11 with funding from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
