No Way Home: Understanding the Needs and Experiences of Homeless Youth in Hollywood
An array of coordinated, integrated services that are responsive to youths' needs and experiences are required to prevent, reduce, and end youth homelessness, a new report from the Hollywood Homeless Youth Partnership finds. The study, No Way Home: Understanding the Needs and Experiences of Homeless Youth in Hollywood (68 pages, PDF), analyzed findings from a survey and interviews with homeless and runaway youth about their physical and mental health, educational, and vocational needs; incidence of victimization; substance use and sexual risk; access to, use of, and experiences with housing and other services; and risk factors such as involvement with Child Protective Services and juvenile and criminal justice systems by gender, age, and race/ethnicity. Funded by the California Endowment and the California Wellness Foundation, the report recommends expanding youth-specific housing programs; providing integrated, trauma-informed services that are sensitive to cultural diversity, sexual orientation, and gender identity; helping prevent youth from entering dependency and delinquency systems; and coordinating public and private agency programs.
