PND Connections - Sustainable Consumption and Production: Strategies for Accelerating Positive Change
The cycle of manufacture, use, and disposal of goods and services has a hand in almost every environmental problem, from the growth of solid waste to global warming. The Funders Working Group on Sustainable Consumption and Production, a coalition of Environmental Grantmakers Association members, has published a guide to help grantmakers address environmental problems by motivating consumers, companies, regulators, and others to adopt sustainable practices. Sustainable Consumption and Production: Strategies for Accelerating Positive Change (72 pages, PDF) recommends that grantmakers support projects that help consumers understand the hidden effects of their choices, promote innovative policies to reduce wasteful practices, boost demand for green products, encourage sustainable business practices, and demand corporate accountability. The guide provides an overview of each approach, potential strategies, profiles of organizations and projects in the field, and resources for further information.
