School Turnaround Field GuideFSG Social Impact Advisors has released a report exploring the issue of school turnarounds in light of the Obama administration's ongoing effort to spur improvements in the nation's five thousand lowest-performing schools. Funded by the Wallace Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the School Turnaround Field Guide (66 pages, PDF) identifies school districts, unions, charter school management groups, and other organizations that focus specifically on school turnarounds and details the significant challenges facing the field, including a lack of programs that have succeeded on a broad scale and the dearth of teachers and principals specifically trained to lead turnarounds. The report also contains lessons learned from earlier school turnarounds and recommends ways in which current turnaround efforts can serve the largest number of schools and students.
