Connections - Open Society Blog New Orleans Series
With the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina a few days away, the Open Society Institute's Open Society blog has been running a series of posts about the people and organizations tackling criminal justice reform, a lack of local and federal governmental support, racial and economic inequality, and other problems confronting post-Katrina New Orleans. The posts include video chats with OSI executive director of U.S. programs Ann Beeson on why the foundation supports New Orleans's most dedicated, creative advocates for social change and social justice; 2010 Soros Justice Fellow Alison McCrary on the need to better protect the city's cultural traditions; and Neighborhoods Partnership Network executive director Timolynn Sams on her organization's efforts to facilitate neighborhood collaboration, increase access to government processes and information, and strengthen the voices of individuals and communities across New Orleans.
