Disaster Relief

Save the Children Pakistan Flood Response Survey Save the Children has announced the results of a survey conducted over a two-day period in and around Swat, Pakistan, where the worst monsoon rains in recent memory are flooding scores of communities and creating a humanitarian disaster for as many as 3.5 million children and adults — many of them living in remote villages without clean water or food. The survey found that half the households in the region had no remaining food; half were unable to access health services; 45 percent were drinking contaminated water from rivers, ponds, or lakes; and 42 percent did not have water containers to transport clean water from safe sources. In addition, almost all (94 percent) of the eighty communities surveyed lacked safe areas where children could play.
