U.S. Agriculture and Climate Change Legislation: Markets, Myths and Opportunities A new report from the Pew Center on Global Climate Change and the Clark Group examines how climate legislation is affecting the country's agricultural industry. The report, U.S. Agriculture and Climate Change Legislation: Markets, Myths and Opportunities (21 pages, PDF), argues that U.S. farmers should play a more active role in energy policy discussions because climate change and the potential for altered weather patterns pose numerous and serious risks for agriculture, especially with respect to how it may affect farmers economically. The report also notes that farmers and the agriculture industry as a whole are likely to face greenhouse gas (GHG) restrictions regardless of what happens in the legislative arena and that costs to farmers from GHG legislation can be substantially mitigated by cost-containment mechanisms.
