Community Improvement/Development

From Crisis to Opportunity: Learning From One Region's Response to the Economic Downturn FSG Social Impact Advisors has issued a report that looks at the actions taken in response to the economic downturn by grantmakers across the Pacific Northwest. Funded by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, the report, From Crisis to Opportunity: Learning From One Region's Response to the Economic Downturn (28 pages, PDF), provides lessons for community-based funders with limited resources about how to maximize their effectiveness. The report includes examples from the United Way of King County, the Meyer Memorial Trust, and the Bill & Melinda Gates, Seattle, and Alaska Community foundations. Among other things, the report found that many funders in the region have shifted their practices and policies in response to urgent community needs and have become more intentional about how they apply and leverage assets, often collaborating with other groups to avoid wasting time, effort, and money.
