Nonprofit Capacity Assessment: Indiana's Arts and Culture Organizations, 2010
The Indiana Arts Commission and the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs have issued a report on the capacity building and technical assistance needs of arts and culture organizations in the state. Based on a survey of 385 organizations, the report, Nonprofit Capacity Assessment: Indiana's Arts and Culture Organizations, 2010 (238 pages, PDF), looked at seven dimensions of capacity building and found that securing financial resources posed the greatest challenge, followed by networking and advocacy capacity, marketing, programs and planning capacity, information technology capacity, human resources, and operations and governance capacity. Across the board, challenges were most severe for organizations whose entire mission is dedicated to arts and culture, those that rely extensively on volunteers, and those with board vacancies.
