Ready for the Future: The Role of Performance Assessments in Shaping Graduates' Academic, Professional, and Personal Lives The Center for Collaborative Education and the Nellie Mae Education Foundation have issued a report that uses retrospective interviews with graduates of three Boston public schools with established performance-based assessment systems to better understand how performance assessment affects students. Complementing a previously released companion study (60 pages, PDF), the report, Ready for the Future: The Role of Performance Assessments in Shaping Graduates' Academic, Professional, and Personal Lives (57 pages, PDF), found that many graduates reported "learning how to learn" through performance assessments. Another two-thirds said the curriculum at their schools emphasized interdisciplinary connections between different topics, focused on overarching questions, aimed at being relevant to the world and their lives, and valued depth over breadth. In addition, almost half said performance assessments cultivated the habits of learning that prepared them to continue to learn in life.
