Philanthropy and Voluntarism

Turning Passion Into Action: Giving While Living Atlantic Philanthropies has issued a new report that explores the practice of "giving while living" — donating funds, skills, and time over the course of one's lifetime — as exemplified by its founder, Duty Free Shoppers co-founder Charles F. Feeney. The report, Turning Passion Into Action: Giving While Living (32 pages, PDF), includes profiles of Feeney and ten other philanthropists who have given generously during their lifetimes, explores motivating factors for giving while living, and describes how to set up and execute a giving-while-living program. The publication also offers a list of issues to consider when setting up such a program, including problems to focus on, geographic areas of concentration, and determining what is achievable.
