Haiti: How Can I Help? - Models for Donors Seeking Long-Term Impact The University of Pennsylvania's Center for High Impact Philanthropy has issued an investment guide for donors that details the best ways to support long-term rebuilding efforts in quake-ravaged Haiti. The guide, Haiti: How Can I Help? — Models for Donors Seeking Long-Term Impact (48 pages, PDF), offers information on sustainable, high-impact models in the areas of health, livelihoods, and education and provides cost-per-impact estimates for each philanthropic opportunity. Although poverty in the Caribbean nation seems intractable, the guide provides examples of how certain problems can be addressed. For instance, the report found that community-based primary healthcare systems can dramatically reduce child death rates for an investment of only $25 per person, while certain agriculture models can help produce more food, increase a farmer's income, and regenerate Haiti's deforested soil for only $90 a year.
