PND Connections - Covering the War in Iraq: Committee to Protect Journalists' War Resources Page

Two journalists, a cameraman, and a translator have been killed and/or reported missing in the first six days of the conflict in Iraq. To help minimize fatalities and casualties among journalists covering the war and to keep the public informed about developments affecting press coverage of the conflict, the Committee to Protect Journalists a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization founded in 1981 to monitor abuses against the press and promote press freedom around the world, is maintaining a War in the Gulf resources page. In addition to a day-by-day summary of developments concerning the press and press safety in Iraq, the page includes links to CPJ's safety handbook, On Assignment: Covering Conflict Safely; the U.S. military's embedding guidelines for journalists; and the Coalition Forces Land Component (CFLCC) Command Ground Rules Agreement. Visitors to the page will also find links to Iraq background materials, Iraqi media resources, and articles from a variety of sources that discuss the dangers and difficulties confronting journalists attempting to cover this war.
