Giving in Florida: The State of Philanthropy in the Sunshine State
Charitable giving by Florida foundations, corporations, and individuals totaled $17.7 billion in 2007, a 36 percent increase compared to 2001, a new report from the Florida Philanthropic Network finds. The report, Giving in Florida: The State of Philanthropy in the Sunshine State (20 pages, PDF), also found that the recession caused overall giving in the state to decline by about 3 percent in 2008 and by more in 2009 — although giving is predicted to stabilize or increase slightly in 2010. Indeed, a recent FPN survey found that 40 percent of Florida grantmakers said they expect to give more in 2010 than in 2009, while 42 percent said they expect their grantmaking to stay about the same.
