PND Connections - Funding for Cultural Organizations in Boston and Nine Other Metropolitan Areas

Although Boston has more arts and cultural organizations on a per-capita basis than both New York and San Francisco, it lags behind those cities when it comes to providing financial support to the arts. A recent report from the Boston Foundation, Funding for Cultural Organizations in Boston and Nine Other Metropolitan Areas (87 pages, PDF), examines the funding resources available to arts and cultural groups in nine cities (Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Seattle) and explores how the differences in funding levels impacts the arts and cultural communities in each metropolitan area. Prepared by TDC, a nonprofit provider of technical assistance and management consulting services, the report also discusses the strengths and weaknesses of Boston's cultural sector and warns that many of the city's arts groups may not survive if they do not receive more support.
