PND Connections - Strengthening the Public Health System for a Healthier Future
Grantmakers in Health, a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to helping foundations and corporate giving programs improve the nation's health, has released a detailed report on the public health infrastructure that includes profiles of various philanthropic initiatives aimed at repairing and improving it. Strengthening the Public Health System for a Healthier Future (48 pages, PDF), the latest in a series of so-called issue briefs from the D.C-based organization, is based on a dialogue among public health experts convened by GIH in November to explore opportunities to improve the nation's public health infrastructure. After a brief introduction, the report looks at essential elements of the system, including organizational capacity, workforce capability and competency, and collaboration, and concludes with an in-depth look at the infrastructure issues involved in emergency preparedness.
