Health

Special Event on Philanthropy and the Global Public Health Agenda Earlier this year, the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs and the UN Office for Partnerships, in collaboration with the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy and the World Health Organization, organized a gathering of representatives from academia, UN member countries, and the nonprofit sector to examine why many regions of the world are not on track to meet the UN Millennium Development Goals. A final report on that meeting, Special Event on Philanthropy and the Global Public Health Agenda (48 pages, PDF), shares experts' thoughts on how to improve health outcomes for the world's women and girls and bring greater attention to preventing and treating neglected tropical diseases, among other issues. The participants' recommendations include increasing the number of community and mid-level health workers, investing in sustainable funding, improving drug distribution and procurement processes, and encouraging a continued dialogue on global health issues.
