Guide for Funding Basic Human Needs in a Challenging Economy
As is true in many states, Maryland's unemployment rate recently hit a seventeen-year high, its emergency shelters are operating beyond capacity, and demand for emergency health care, financial assistance, and other human service needs continues to rise. In response, the Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers has issued a guide that urges funders in the state to support basic needs for struggling Marylanders. The Guide for Funding Basic Human Needs in a Challenging Economy (28 pages, PDF) provides information about levels of need, best practices, and grantmaking successes in areas such as food security and foreclosure prevention/mitigation — services that become even more critical during economic downturns.
