Moving Beyond AYP: High School Performance Indicators According to a new policy brief from the Alliance for Excellent Education, the nation needs to rethink its approach to high school performance indicators. The brief, Moving Beyond AYP: High School Performance Indicators (20 pages, PDF), argues that the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) system is an inadequate tool for conveying a complete picture of the performance and progress that students in a school are making. To that end, the report's author presents a three-pronged approach for achieving more accurate assessments that includes a college and career-ready indicator, multiple indicators related to diagnostic and school-improvement measures, and the use of annual progress goals to drive reform.
