Community Improvement/Development

The Impacts of Foreclosures on Families and Communities The Impacts of Foreclosures on Families and Communities (54 pages, PDF), a new report from the Urban Institute, examines both the fallout from the foreclosure crisis — disrupted family relationships, declining property values in many markets, and stress on local governments, among other issues — as well as efforts either under way or being discussed to address the problem. Funded by the Open Society Institute, the report found that foreclosure responses have fallen into four categories — developing local response systems, preventing foreclosures, stabilizing neighborhoods, and helping families recover — and that further research is needed on the effectiveness of these efforts.
