It's Not Flu As Usual: What Individuals and Families Need to Know About Pandemic Flu Funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Trust for America's Health Pandemic Preparedness Initiative has issued a brochure to inform individuals about possible pandemic flu outbreaks. It's Not Flu As Usual: What Individuals and Families Need to Know About Pandemic Flu (4 pages, PDF) warns that pandemic flu generally strikes three to four times each century and can affect tens of millions of people, including those who are not usually considered "at risk." According to the brochure, however, there are steps families can take to prepare for an outbreak, including teaching children commonsense precautions to avoid spreading germs, keeping generic medical supplies on hand, and anticipating disruptions of your daily routine should a pandemic occur.
