Stop the Presses According to a nationally representative News Interest Index poll conducted by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, only 43 percent of survey respondents — and 56 percent of regular newspaper readers — said that losing their local newspaper would hurt civic life in their community a lot, while even fewer (33 percent) said they would personally miss reading the local newspaper if it were no longer available. The poll also found that 53 percent of those polled said they had heard a lot about the challenges confronting newspapers, while 31 percent said they had heard a little and 15 percent said they had heard nothing at all.
