Patterns of Singularity: The Motivations of Independent Jewish Funders in Times of Economic Distress
The Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies and the Charles H. Revson Foundation have released a report examining the motivations and practices of Jewish funders during the economic downturn. Based on a survey of nearly two hundred donors and foundation leaders, the report, Patterns of Singularity: The Motivations of Independent Jewish Funders in Times of Economic Distress (62 pages, PDF), found that the majority of Jewish funders are deeply engaged in Jewish life and consider the education of Jewish children and adolescents their top giving priority. However, the report found that, despite a strong penchant to fund Jewish innovation, almost a third of Jewish philanthropists do not fund independent, innovative nonprofits.
