Even as Housing Values Sink, There's Comfort in Homeownership
The Pew Research Center's Social & Demographic Trends project has released the results of a recent survey which found that even with home prices falling, foreclosures rising, and residential sales weak, the vast majority of homeowners (90 percent) said their home is a source of comfort in their life, while only 6 percent said it's a burden. The survey also found that Midwestern homeowners (14 percent) were more likely than those in the East or South (6 percent each) to say their home is at least partly a burden, while only 44 percent of "burdened" homeowners rated their community as good to excellent, compared with 69 percent of "comforted" homeowners.
