Lincoln Bicentennial
A newly renovated Ford's Theatre, the site of Abraham Lincoln's assassination in 1865, recently reopened in Washington, D.C., thanks in part to funding from American Express and the GE, Bank of America, and William S. Abell foundations. To celebrate the reopening, which coincides with the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth, the theater is presenting a newly commissioned play, The Heavens Are Hung in Black, about the months leading up to Lincoln's decision to issue the Emancipation Proclamation. Information about the theater's reopening celebration and other bicentennial events is included on the Library of Congress's Lincoln Bicentennial Web site.
