PND Connections - Assessing Foundation Performance: Current Practices, Future Possibilities
The Center for Effective Philanthropy, a research and educational organization dedicated to improving foundation performance, has released a summary of lessons learned during a seminar it held in Boston in November to discuss how foundations measure their work. Assessing Foundation Performance: Current Practices, Future Possibilities (20 pages, PDF) includes an article on the seminar's keynote speech by Joel Fleishman of Atlantic Philanthropies, who called on foundation boards to take a more active role in organizational assessment and oversight. Sponsored by the Boston Foundation, the seminar was designed to advance the discussion of performance assessment and build upon a study conducted by the Center that resulted in Indicators of Effectiveness: Understanding and Improving Foundation Performance (42 pages, PDF), a report released last August.
