Adolescent Health Services: Missing Opportunities
Recognizing that healthcare providers play an important role in fostering healthy behaviors among adolescents, a new report from the National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine examines the programs and services available to that age group. Funded by Atlantic Philanthropies, the report, Adolescent Health Services: Missing Opportunities (executive summary, 39 pages, PDF), finds that major problematic features of the nation's health services system for adolescents include missed opportunities for disease prevention and health promotion. The report recommends that regulatory bodies incorporate competencies in adolescent care in their licensing, certification, and accreditation requirements and that public and private funders provide financial support to expand and sustain interdisciplinary training programs in adolescent health.
