2003-2007 Report on Hate Crimes and Discrimination Against Arab Americans
According to a new report from the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, reports of hate crimes against Arab Americans and Muslims are far more common now than during the 1980s and 1990s. Funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the report, 2003-2007 Report on Hate Crimes and Discrimination Against Arab Americans (99 pages, PDF), found that between 2003 and 2007 the committee received an average of 120 to 130 reports annually of ethnically or religiously motivated attacks or threats against Arab Americans and Muslims, compared with 80 to 90 reports a year in the late 1990s. At the same time, the number of reports of hate crimes has decreased significantly from its peak in the weeks following September 11, when some 700 incidents were reported.
