State Arts Policy: Trends and Future Prospects In response to growing economic, political, and demographic challenges, arts agencies in many states have begun to reshape their roles in recent years, a new report from the RAND Corporation finds. Funded by the Wallace Foundation, the report, State Arts Policy: Trends and Future Prospects (42 pages, PDF), concludes a four-volume, multiyear study on the evolution and future of state arts agencies. Among other things, the report offers "big picture" observations about arts agencies and identifies three strategies they are using to adapt to a changing landscape: placing greater emphasis on encouraging public participation in the arts, engaging more frequently with elected officials, and expanding their services beyond grantmaking.
