Free Care Compendium
Community Catalyst's Free Care Compendium contains summaries of so-called charity care laws and regulations in each state as well as a national snapshot of regulatory and legislative trends in the charity care arena. Highlighting disparities in the amount of free care provided by tax-exempt hospitals to individuals based on where they live, the report offers recommendations for establishing consistent, fair, and transparent free care policies, including prohibiting the assignment of medical bills to financial institutions that charge interest and imposing sanctions on hospitals that fail to meet their obligations. The associated site also allows visitors to share their health care-related stories.
