Health

American Diabetes Month November is American Diabetes Month, and this year's theme is "Why should you care about diabetes?" To mark the event, the American Diabetes Association has released a fact sheet (2 pages, PDF) containing information on the prevalence of diabetes, complications of the disease, and how to prevent or delay such complications. According to the American Diabetes Association, since 1987 the death rate due to diabetes has jumped 45 percent, while deaths due to heart disease, stroke, and cancer have all declined. If current trends continue, one in three Americans — and one in two minorities — born in 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime.
