U.S. Population, Energy and Climate Change According to a new report from the Center for Environment and Population, a project of the Tides Center, the nation's extravagant per-capita energy use and growing population are combining to have a profound impact on the world's climate as well as the daily lives of Americans. The report, U.S. Population, Energy and Climate Change (30 pages, PDF), projects that there could be as many as a billion high-energy consuming Americans by 2100 and argues that it will be a daunting challenge to meet the energy demands of that population and, at the same time, reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. The report was funded by the Richard and Rhoda Goldman and Wallace Global funds and the Winslow, Compton, and New-Land foundations.
