PND Connections - Iraq: What Next?
With the United Nations inspections team scheduled to deliver a crucial report on the weapons inspections process in Iraq to the UN Security Council, questions about the process and where it is heading abound for citizens and policy makers around the globe. A new report from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Iraq: What Next? (26 pages, PDF), addresses many of those questions, including what the inspectors are looking for, what has and still needs to be done to judge the process a success or failure, and how charges and counter-charges following from the report should be evaluated. The report also provides an outline of longstanding concerns over Iraq's missile, nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons capabilities and looks at the effectiveness of multilateral intelligence sharing, the inspectors' use of advanced technology, and Iraq's record of cooperation.
