MetLife Foundation/Civic Ventures Encore Career Survey

Almost one in ten baby boomers and pre-boomers are pursuing second careers with social impact, and the trend could acclerate, a new survey from the MetLife Foundation and Civic Ventures finds. The MetLife Foundation/Civic Ventures Encore Career Survey (64 pages, PDF) found that, of those between the ages of forty-four and seventy who are not already in encore careers, about half expressed an interest in working in such fields as education, health care, government, and the nonprofit sector. With survey data on demographics, motives, and levels of interest and satisfaction suggesting a growing number of people eager to work for social change, the authors recommend policy and workplace changes that could ease the transition into encore careers.
