Two out of every five people in the United States live in counties with unhealthy levels of particle pollution or ozone, a new report from the American Lung Association finds. The report, State of the Air: 2008 (204 pages, PDF), notes that airborne pollution is especially dangerous for children under the age of 18, senior citizens, and individuals with asthma, chronic lung or cardiovascular disease, or diabetes. The findings from the report are available on the State of the Air Web site, where visitors also can look up the air pollution levels in their county, read about the health risks associated with air pollution, and learn what they can do to help improve air quality locally and nationally.
