America's Cradle to Prison Pipeline

Risks such as lack of access to health and mental healthcare, child abuse or neglect, and lack of quality early childhood education often impact children at crucial points in their development, making involvement in the criminal justice system significantly more likely, a new report from the Children's Defense Fund finds. America's Cradle to Prison Pipeline (244 pages, PDF) argues that children who are the subject of intervention by a teacher, mentor, or other adult are less likely to fall into or remain in the criminal justice pipeline, and offers recommendations to help curb the juvenile criminal justice crisis.
