Internet's Role in Presidential Campaign The Internet is becoming a major source for news about the 2008 presidential campaign, especially among young people, a recent survey by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press finds. According to Social Networking and Online Videos Take Off: Internet's Broader Role in Campaign 2008 (32 pages, PDF), 24 percent of Americans say they regularly learn about the presidential race from the Internet, up from 13 percent during the 2004 campaign. The study also found that while television remains the most cited news source overall, 46 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds cite the Internet as a top source, with online campaign videos and social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook playing a significant role among those under the age of 30.
