Philanthropy and Voluntarism

Our Region, Our Giving In honor of its fifteenth anniversary, the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers has published a report in partnership with the Foundation Center that compares the D.C. region's philanthropic landscape in 1992 and 2005. Funded by the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, the report, Our Region, Our Giving — 15th Anniversary Edition: Then and Now (32 pages, PDF), finds that the assets of community foundations in the region rose from $31.5 million in 1992 to $412.5 million in 2005 and that community foundation giving grew from $4.3 million to $95.2 million over the same period. The report also found that more philanthropic dollars are staying within the region, with giving by local grantmakers to organizations in the District of Columbia and suburban Maryland doubling between 1992 and 2005.
