Prepare to Care
While most Americans understand the value of saving for college or to buy a home, when it comes to caring for an aging loved one many families don't have a plan. The AARP Foundation has prepared a new resource, Prepare to Care: A Planning Guide for Families (19 pages, PDF), that helps family members create such a plan. The guide walks readers through a five-step process — prepare to talk, form your team, assess needs, make a plan, and take action — and offers answers to frequently asked questions, tips, and charts that can help families work through a difficult topic together.
