National Service and Civic Engagement Survey
Conducted this past December, the National Service and Civic Engagement Survey asked one thousand adults what motivates them to engage in public service activities and whether they think incentives should be given to encourage participation in public service. Funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, the survey found that 71 percent of Americans think it would be good for the country if more people participated in public service activities and that the government should do more to encourage public service. Indeed, 61 percent of those polled said they would approve of the federal government requiring a year of full-time service before students could receive federal student aid for graduate school.
