Boston Pilot Schools
According to a new study from the Center for Collaborative Education, students in Boston's pilot high schools outperform students from other non-exam Boston Public Schools (BPS) in every standard measure of engagement and performance. The report, Strong Results, High Demands: A Four-Year Study of Boston's Pilot High Schools (executive summary, 8 pages, PDF), found that pilot high school students show better scores on state assessment tests, higher attendance rates, and higher promotion rates. In addition, the four-year graduation rate in 2006 for pilot high school students was 75.7 percent — more than 23 percentage points higher than the rate for BPS students. Funded in part by the Boston Foundation, the report also found that pilot high schools reflect BPS demographics with regard to race, income, and mainstream special needs students.
