Journalists in Iraq — A Survey of Reporters on the Front Lines According to a new report from the Project for Excellence in Journalism, conditions in Iraq are the most dangerous that the more than one hundred journalists surveyed — mostly veteran war correspondents — have ever encountered. The report, Journalists in Iraq — A Survey of Reporters on the Front Lines (44 pages, PDF), finds that more than 70 percent of the journalists, representing twenty-nine news organizations, travel with armed guards and chase vehicles, while 57 percent reported that at least one of their Iraqi staff had been killed or kidnapped in the past year.
