Disaster Grantmaking: A Practical Guide for Foundations and Corporations (46 pages, PDF), a new report from the Council on Foundations and the European Foundation Centre, addresses the growing role of foundations and corporations in disaster grantmaking. Although they lack the resources of the public sector and large disaster-relief organizations, the report, a follow-up to a 2001 study, argues that foundations and corporate grantmakers have made significant contributions by filling critical gaps in areas such as disaster rehabilitation, prevention, research, and education.
