Helping Americans Vote: Poll Worker Training America's poll workers receive uneven job training, low pay, and face long hours and increasingly complex job requirements, according to a survey conducted by electiononline.org, a project of the Pew Center on the States. The survey, Helping Americans Vote: Poll Worker Training (29 pages, PDF), provides a detailed look at state requirements for poll worker training and pay, and examines how different localities confront absenteeism and recruitment issues. Among other findings, the survey found that eighteen states leave poll worker training to local districts, while ten use a combination of locally crafted programs and state-required materials.
